This two day workshop with one of Ireland’s most experienced and acclaimed writer/directors is a case study in creative collaboration for actors interested in taking the next step from single scene day players to key supporting and lead roles on screen.   

A table read of a new feature screenplay that is out for financing will be followed by two days of casting, script analysis, rehearsal, blocking, shooting and reviewing of key scenes. 

Participants will be asked to originate hefty roles with scene partners and ensembles and work with the director to add value to the material on the page. 

Actors will rotate roles to look at different approaches. The emphasis will be on building complexity in character development across the whole arc of a film, exploring subtext and conceiving relationships that are dynamic and compelling on screen. 

This is a nose to tail filmmaking workshop for experienced participants keen to take their screen acting skills to the next level.

YOUR TUTOR

Tom Hall has been among Ireland’s most accomplished and garlanded writer/directors for film and television over twenty five years. Selected works include the Emmy nominated series Modern Love (Amazon/NYT) starring Tina Fey and Anne Hathaway, Bachelor’s Walk (IFTA Winner), Sensation, starring Domhnall Gleeson in his first lead role and most recently, Northern Lights for Lionsgate/TG4. 

In addition Tom has taught acting, directing and screenwriting in various institutions in Ireland and abroad over twenty years. He is the current film artist in residence
at University College Cork.
