Beginners Stand-Up Comedy Workshop

About The Course

This workshop will focus on two of the core aspects of standup comedy:

PERSONA and WRITING

Day one of the workshop, learners will study comedic persona through analysis with tutor Stephen Mullan, looking at some of the unique persona traits that make up some of today’s top comedians, while also investigating the learners personal traits, and the possibilities for them to use in future comedy exploration.

Day two will investigate writing for the comedic persona, using writing tools to generate material, while also using play to explore comedic ideas and routines. This workshop is designed to give the learner a taster of what it would be like to train in further depth, what it takes to create the learners first five minute set on stage in front of a live audience. This is a practical workshop that will also give the participant the opportunity to explore the performance ritual.

Comedy is a serious businees but the plan is to have fun, push the boat out and test yourself in a safe and friendly environment. What are you waiting for?

Our main tutor Stephen Mullan has over 10 years experience in the entertainment industry, has performed all over Ireland, the UK and in New York, has opened tour shows for Joanne McNally, Des Bishop and Jason Byrne as well as having performed at festivals alongside Tommy Tiernan, David O’Doherty and Michael Che (SNL).
