As so many auditions require elements of improvisation and it is also often required on set as the director explores alternate ways of approaching a scene, it is important to have some useful improv tools in your toolkit.
Unfortunately,
even for experienced actors, improvisation does not come naturally. Too
often they become self-conscious when asked to do so, leading them to
ignore their gut instincts for fear of being ridiculed or dismissed.
This can lead to lost opportunities and low self esteem.
Here at Bow Street
we are all too familiar with hurdles of this kind. We see where actors
fall down and we aim to provide the tools necessary to rise.
This workshop aims to achieve the following goals:
- To
create a sense of play in a safe non judgemental environment, so
participants can take this feeling, recognise it, and use it when
performing.
- To learn to trust one’s gut and first instinct. This is an essential tool as an actor.
- To
reconnect with the inner child that the world and the passage of time has
silenced. This reconnect allows us to see things with a renewed vitality
and energy, and reignite the spark we all need to survive in this
industry!
Colman will use various improvisation techniques to create this sense of play. Participants will leave
the workshop feeling empowered and enlivened.
