This 10 week course is for anyone who wants to develop the fundamental skills of improvisation, including people who want to do improv for fun, build self confidence, better their professional skills, or to eventually pursue it to the next level. Improv has always been an important tool for actors from beginners to the most experienced and on this course you will learn how to:

– Overcome the fear of not being good enough.
– Develop your sense of play and spontaneity.
– Work within an ensemble.
– Understand the mechanics and structure of improv.
– Create strong truthful characters.
– Build comedic scenes without looking for the joke.

The course is run by Shane Robinson, an improviser with nearly a decade of experience performing and teaching. He’s taught improv to a wide variety of people around Ireland from theatre companies, animators and business managers. He is also a founding member of Kill the Monster improv troupe and a committee member of Dublin’s weekly improv night The Tightrope.

Shane Robinson is one of the finest improvisers and facilitators working in Dublin today. His passion for improvisation is only matched by the ferocious dedication Shane has had to improv over the eight years I’ve worked with him.  He has improved people of all levels and abilities, from grizzled veterans to people who have never performed in their lives. I always look forward to working with Shane, whether in a workshop, rehearsal or a show because I know I’m going to learn something new.” – Ruairi de Burca

As an actor, I’ve had the opportunity to see Shane work his magic, using his keen sense of scene and improv techniques to transform what was a dull two-hander lacking in drama into a tense and compelling scene. I’ve lost count of how many of Shane’s workshops I’ve participated in, and I’ve always come away with something of value.  He is knowledgeable, patient and always brings a sense of humour to his work. Can’t recommend enough, his students are in for a treat.”  –  Dave McGowan

Longform Improv training was a complete revelation to me as an actor, not only was it loads of craic, it helped me to develop a deeper understanding of what it truly means to be in the moment. Shane is an excellent teacher skilled, generous and passionate about what he does.”  –  Claire Jenkins
